Update

Its been 30 dialysis sessions and have been generally ok.Last 2 weeks i realised what hell was.I used to feel dead tired after the sessions.Severe constipation, Breathlessness, Chest pain, Musco skeletal pain, sleeplessness and last but not the least restless leg syndrome. It all happened at once and i was completely washed out.

It is very difficult to control your fluids. My fluid weight gain between dialysis is about 2.5 to 3.5 kgs. The lesser the weight gain the better you feel. The more weight gain you have, more complications arise like BP goes up,breatlessness and you feel completely drained out after dialysis.I have started working on the fluid and salt intake very strictly.

Feeling a little low as two people (Dr Purnima & Mr Purnachandra) i knew in my dialysis unit passed away.May there soul rest in peace.I will miss them.

I got my monthly blood reports and mostly everything looks fine except for HB which has come down to 8.67mg. The iron absorption has gone down and because of that i am given iron injections. Potassium & Phosphorous is on the border line and the doc said it was ok.My PTH (Parathyroid hormone) is well within the limits.PTH helps the body keep the right balance of minerals. When your kidneys aren’t working well, PTH can build up in your blood because your kidneys can’t process enough vitamin D. This, in turn, may cause phosphorus to build up and the level of calcium to go down.My creatanine levels have come down to 7.0 which the doc said was good. Before dialysis my creat levels were 10.5 and in about 2 months after dialysis the levels have come down.

Overall i am feeling ok and getting used to this life.I go to work and do everything normally.I visit friends, socialize and do everything what i was doing before.

I am looking forward to get stricter with fluids and salt and i am sure with these two things in control, life is going to be much much better.

That's all for now will write later.

First Day on Dialysis

My first day (October 5,2009) was at 6.00 pm which lasted for about an hour and a half. The dialysis went on good without any problem. When i was plugged into the machine i was apprehensive about what was going to happen. When the blood flows out of the body i did not come to know anything. When the blood gets dialyized and gets back to your body is when u feel something is going on cold for just a moment. After that it was smooth sailing.Watched a movie while on the machine and had a good laugh.Met Dr Poornima who is on dialysis for 7 years. It was nice to talk to her.

Dialysis is not evil or to be feared as it is potrayed by some. There are some life adjustments to be made.Life is more precious than anything else. The only way to deal with this kind of situation is having a positive attitude and never give up attitude, no matter how it is.I will live a quality life and be happy.

My wife kiran is there by my side in this hour and i am always thankful for that.My family has been very supportive especially my mother, brother and sister-in-law.My friends have been very accommadating & supportive.

So far so good. Will post later.
